Robert C. Smith
Robert C. Smith is an investment management expert with 40 years of experience in investing, finance, accounting, and business management. Prior to joining Spero-Smith in 1993, he was chief investment officer of an investment advisory firm he co-founded in 1988.
Bob is deeply committed to civic leadership. He is Chairman Emeritus of the Board of Trustees of both Ohio Northern University, in Ada, Ohio, his alma mater, and of ideastream®, WVIZ/WCPN, the Public Broadcasting System television station and National Public Radio station serving the greater Cleveland, Ohio, area. The Mayor of Cleveland, three Ohio Governors and the Governor of Michigan have appointed Bob to positions of investment leadership for public entities.
Previously, he served as Chairman of the Greater Cleveland Growth Association, where he championed the merger of the Greater Cleveland Growth Association and Cleveland Tomorrow. He also is former Chair of the Council of Smaller Enterprises (COSE) in Cleveland, as well as a member of the Board of Directors for many organizations.
Bob volunteers his institutional investment management experience as a member of several nonprofit organizations and foundations in Northeast Ohio. He has received many awards for civic and community leadership and for providing volunteer financial guidance to nonprofit organizations.
Bob is frequently consulted by the media on investing, financial planning, and wealth management issues. He holds an M.B.A. in Finance from Duquesne University and a B.A. in Business Administration (Accounting) from Ohio Northern University. He is a member of the CFA Institute and the Cleveland CFA Society.
